Dutch out-of-the-box
Dutch shoppers have their own expectations: iDEAL as the default way to pay, an address that fills itself in from a postcode and house number, and a pickup point around the corner. Loki Checkout covers all three out-of-the-box - because we build it from The Netherlands ourselves.
Dutch payment providers
The providers your customers already trust
The Dutch payment landscape is dominated by a handful of local providers, and Loki Checkout integrates with them directly. Each integration is a first-party compatibility module, maintained by us and tested against the provider's own Magento extension.
ICEPAY and Billink are supported as well, and PayPal Express, Stripe and Adobe Payment Services cover the international part of your audience.
iDEAL, the Dutch default
iDEAL is the payment method for The Netherlands, and it is available through our Mollie, PAY. and Stripe integrations. With iDEAL 2, the old issuer selection has been deprecated: customers pick their bank at the provider instead of in the checkout. Our Mollie module still supports issuer selection for merchants who need it.
Fast Checkout
Fast Checkout lets a customer skip the form entirely and confirm an order straight from the payment provider. It is currently available for PAY., Checkout via Bol, MultiSafepay, Stripe and Adobe Payment Services - including PAY. iDEAL Fast Checkout.
Pay later, pay per invoice
Buy-now-pay-later is big in The Netherlands, and it needs more than a radio button. When the Riverty method is selected through Buckaroo, the checkout shows an extra Chamber of Commerce field for business customers. Billink is supported as a separate integration, and additional costs for a payment method are shown in the checkout sidebar.
Postcode.nl address validation
Postcode and house number, the rest fills itself
No Dutch shop is complete without proper address validation. Loki Checkout ships with a native integration for the Postcode EU API - better known as Postcode.nl. The customer enters a postcode and a house number, and the street name, city and region are filled in automatically.
Those autocompleted fields stay disabled until the lookup succeeds, so there is nothing to mistype. When a house number has multiple additions, the Addition field switches from a text field into a select on the fly. When no addition applies, it is wiped from the quote automatically.
And if the API is unreachable, the checkout does not break: the "Use autocompletion" flag is disabled automatically and the customer simply fills in the address by hand.
Prefer a different provider? Address autocompletion is an abstraction in Loki Checkout, with existing implementations on top of the PostNL API and the Google Geocode API.
Dutch shipping providers
Delivery at home, or a pickup point around the corner
Dutch customers expect to choose between delivery at home and a pickup point nearby, and they expect to see where that pickup point actually is. Loki Checkout implements this as reusable shipping templates, so every carrier gets the same polished experience instead of a per-module reinvention.
PostNL
A compatibility layer on top of the original TIG_PostNL module. The customer picks either Delivery or Pickup, and pickup locations are listed sorted by distance, with their address and opening hours.
MyParcel NL
Available delivery options are requested from the MyParcel API, giving the customer both home delivery with a delivery date and a list of pickup locations ordered by vicinity, including address and opening hours.
Sendcloud
Sendcloud renders a popup map, hosted by Sendcloud itself, to pick a service point. Once chosen, the service point is saved into the quote. All you need to configure is the public key of your Sendcloud account.
Pickup locations are rendered on a map through the Loki Map Components, with ready-made support for Google Maps, Leaflet (OpenStreetMap) and Mapbox. Because this is built as a set of reusable shipping templates - shared today by PostNL, MyParcel NL, Sendy and ShipperHQ - swapping from one carrier to another becomes a decision about price, not about which features survive in your checkout. Integrations for DHL, DPD and GLS are on the roadmap.
Built for Dutch address and business data
Integrations are only half the story. A checkout also has to speak the language of Dutch addresses and Dutch business data. That is what the LokiCheckout_Nl country module does - and it is active the moment a customer selects The Netherlands.
Dutch address grid
The Dutch module introduces a dedicated dutch_grid layout, so street, house number and addition sit on one line the way a Dutch address is actually written. The Postcode.nl integration adds its own postcode_nl_grid on top of that.
Postcode formatting
The postcode field hints at 1234 AB instead of a generic example. Input masks format the value while typing, and filters upper-case it and space it correctly before it is ever saved to the quote.
Dutch labels and language
"State" becomes "Province" for Dutch customers, and the full nl_NL language pack is included, so the entire checkout is translated - not just the field that happened to be overridden.
KvK and VAT validation
Selling B2B? The Chamber of Commerce field is enhanced with Dutch KvK validation, and EU VAT identifiers are validated as well - both before the order is placed.
We are Dutch ourselves
Loki Extensions is a Dutch company, based in Baarn, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under KvK number 53173163. That is not a detail for the footer - it is the reason this page exists.
The Loki Checkout was initially created by Jisse Reitsma, founder of Yireo, organizer of numerous developer events and current vice-chair of the Magento Association. Ruud van Zuidam, founder of Siteation, is part of the same team, together with Suzan van de Peut on logistics, Ruben Creemers on design and a few developers whose names are not disclosed.
We have been part of the Dutch Magento community for well over a decade: Yireo has organized MageTestFest, Reacticon and the MageUnconference NL, and we have served on the board of Mage-OS Nederland. The agencies we work with are Dutch agencies. The demo shops we run are Dutch shops.
So when your customer expects iDEAL, a postcode lookup and a PostNL pickup point, you are not explaining that to a vendor overseas. You are talking to people who shop in the same webshops you build.
